Flávio Wagner

Professor, Collaborating Researcher, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil

Flávio received a BSc degree in Electronic Engineering and a MSc degree in Computer Engineering, both from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and a PhD degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, in 1983.

He is a Professor at the Institute of Informatics of UFRGS, where he served as Dean from 2006 to 2011. His main research interest is the design of electronic embedded systems. From 2001 to 2007 he chaired the Working Group 10.5 of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), which gathers experts from academia and industry in the field of Design and Engineering of Electronic Systems.

Flávio is also actively involved with several national and international activities in the field of Internet Governance and was a Board member of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br) from 2008 to 2017. From 2011 to 2016 he was the Director of Zenit, the Science and Technology Park at UFRGS, and engaged in several activities promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in Brazil.

Flávio also served in the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) for 12 years and has been its President from 1999 to 2003.
