Michael Benarroch

Michael Benarroch is provost and vice-president, academic at Ryerson University.

Michael joined Ryerson in July 2017. In his prior roles, as dean of the I. H. Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba, and founding dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Winnipeg, he made and endorsed strong links between campus and city, and fostered a culture of innovation in teaching and research.

As an academic leader, Michael gives ongoing support to student-centred and experiential learning. He has a proven track record of practical commitment to diversity, and inclusion and award-winning strategic governance.

Michael is sought-after internationally for his research insights on the global economic outlook, globalization, and the impact of trade on the environment. He has taught economics at Canadian universities since 1989, and has served provincial governments as an advisor in economic affairs.

Michael received his PhD in Economics from Carleton University, his master’s from Western University, and a BA Honours from the University of Winnipeg.

In his current role as provost – Ryerson’s chief academic officer and chief operating officer – Michael provides leadership in academic policy and programming, strategic planning, and the university budget.
